Course introduction

Course objective: To learn about basic principles of insurance, such as lines of insurance and insurers.

Do you have questions about the basic principles behind insurance but were afraid to ask? Don't worry. The Principles of Insurance courses are here to help. You'll probably even learn a thing or two about subjects you're quite familiar with.

In this course, you will learn about the basics of insurance through the following topics:
  • Lines of insurance
  • Personal lines v. commercial lines
  • Insurers
  • How insurers are domiciled
  • Self-insurance
  • Reinsurance

We recommend that you take the Principles of Insurance (Part 1) course in addition to this course, if you have not done so already, to review the basics about the history of insurance, risk, insurance as a contract, and other key facets of the insurance industry.
